GIFT SHOP ASSOCIATE

We’re looking for a reliable, professional personality to join our Gift Shop Crew. You’ll be working in a busy retail environment helping our guests from all over the world choose and purchase Cog Gear and other unique mementos of their visit, all while fostering a friendly and welcoming atmosphere that enhances their experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greet guests and sell merchandise over a Point-Of-Sale system.

  • Inform and educate guests as to Railway ticketing options and answer any inquiries produced by guests.

  • Create an overall positive experience for our guests through use of positive language and professional courtesy.

  • Act as a member of a team, to accomplish the goal of providing an excellent customer service experience for our guests while also working against a time deadline.

  • Work in a high paced, busy environment that changes hourly, daily, weekly and monthly depending on the mix of business for that time period.

  • Initiate conversation; ask open-ended questions to determine guest needs.

  • Accurately answer routine questions/inquiries about The Cog in a helpful and courteous manner.

  • Answer all question regarding the merchandise and outline features and benefits with accuracy

  • All payment types including, sales, returns, refunds, and exchanges should be processed as quickly and efficiently as possible

  • Utilize add-on selling, cross-selling of tickets, and merchandise upgrading techniques to maximize sales.

Merchandise and Display:

  • Accurately receive and check-in merchandise deliveries to vessel.

  • Ensure all merchandise is accurately SKU’d and priced at all times.

  • Display merchandise in a neat, eye-appealing manner. Restock items as necessary and keep store/storeroom neat and clean.

  • Maintain shop and window displays

Loss Prevention:

  • Maintain an awareness of theft deterrents.

  • Communicate sources of potential loss to management

  • Report all shop thefts to Gift Shop Manager

Safety:

  • Comply with all safety, security, and environmental policies as outlined in the company handbook.

  • Report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager.

Job Skills Required:

  •  Ability to work weekends/holidays and flexible hours including early morning or late-night shifts to open or close the store

  • Ability to maintain appropriate cash levels in cash drawer and personal bank. Turn in all property monies and receipts and ensure deposits/cash drops are verified.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with customers and colleagues

  • Ability to set and accomplish goals in a team atmosphere

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and stressful situations

  • Ability to receive direction and guidance where necessary

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. to effectively maintain appropriate inventory levels and shop merchandise standards.

  • Ability to follow all company policies and procedures

  • Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional

  • Retail or Customer Service experience preferred, but not required.

  • Reach, bend, twist, pull, and stoop; move, life or carry objects. Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time.

  • Answer telephones using appropriate etiquette

  • Strong computer skills

  • Assist in periodic inventories

  • Follow checklist for opening and closing shop

  • Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by company Managers.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be willing to close and work until the last train returns to the Base Station

  • Must be able to properly operate and use a computer

  • Must provide excellent service to internal and external customers

  • Must be able to maintain and keep right a cash bank

  • Must have the ability to adapt to unexpected situations

  • Must be punctual and reliable

  • Must be able to remain calm and portray a friendly demeanor in stressful situations

  • Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.

This is a seasonal position with a layoff at the end of our season.

The Mount Washington Cog Railway provides all necessary training for this position. This is a seasonal job with a layoff at the end of our season.
