Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assume critical safety responsibilities in accordance with the rules and regulations, under the direction of the Engineer and Train Master

  • Operate all train equipment safely and properly.

  • As the eyes and ears of the Engineer, remain alert and adaptable at all times, under time constraints, operational pressures and unexpected situations

  • As a principal public-facing member of the train crew and the Company, support an excellent customer service experience for our guests, at all times, both on and off the train

  • Provide an engaging spoken narrative about the railway, Mount Washington, and the surrounding region throughout the trip.

  • Remain positive, professional, and courteous at all times

  • Proactively assist guests with boarding, ticketing issues and any other problems or inquiries.

  • Assist other departments as needed including but not limited to: ticket scanning, cleaning, parking, maintenance shop, gift shop and kitchen

Job Requirements:

  • Must be punctual and reliable.

  • must be comfortable riding on the exposed front platform of the coach, regardless of weather conditions

  • Must be capable of operating all braking and other safety equipment on the coach

  • Must demonstrate calm, confident leadership in stressful situations or with difficult passengers.

  • must be capable of walking and working on rocky, uneven and very steep terrain in adverse weather conditions

  • Must be an effective public speaker capable of delivering information in an engaging and confident manner.

  • Must be available to work weekends, evenings and holidays

  • Must successfully complete a supervised qualification process

  • Must be able to take and pass a drug screening.

The Mount Washington Cog Railway provides all necessary training for this position. This is a seasonal job with a layoff at the end of our season.
